Research
IPSR conducts research on sexuality and health in the context of the HIV and STD epidemic. In the first decade of the epidemic, social sciences have been successful in explaining and promoting the uptake of safer sex in at-risk populations. During the last decade, attempts to explain why high and increasing levels of risk-taking are observed in some groups, in spite of high levels of information on HIV prevention, have been less convincing.
New theoretical approaches aimed at better understanding risk-taking in the current context are thus identified and used by IPSR to improve the efficacy of HIV prevention programs.
